                              STATUTES OF THE FESTIVAL:

Stara Zagora, Bulgaria

Organizers: Stara Zagora Municipal Authority; Rodina-1860 Cultural Community Centre and Rodina Mixed Choir

Venue: Stara Zagora State Opera House; Regional History Museum; Stara Zagora Art Gallery

Aims:

‐ To promote cultural exchange and cooperation between choir singers and managers from Bulgaria and abroad;

‐ To stimulate promotion and adoption of Bulgarian and European values of the art of choral singing;
‐ To popularize Stara Zagora as a centre of choral singing and musical traditions;

‐ To provide opportunities for repertoire and expertise exchange;

‐ To create opportunity for artistic potential demonstration, as well as diversification of the town’s cultural calendar;
‐ To promote introduction to Bulgarian cultural and historic heritage.

 

Stara Zagora is situated in the centre of Bulgaria. It has an outstanding cultural and historical heritage of 8 000 years of life. The town is beautiful, dynamic, with a nice climate and has a rich cultural and social life. It offers a full time program for its guests.

 

1. Participation requirements:

•Youth choirs

•Male/female-voice choruses

• Mixed-voice choruses

• Vocal groups

• Tempered folklore choirs

2. Categories

• Choruses (20 or more singers)

• Chamber choirs (13 to 19 singers)

• Vocal groups (2 to 12 singers)

3. Performance requirements

The length of performance of youth choirs, male/female –voice choruses, mixed-voice choruses and chamber choirs should not exceed 15 minutes.

4. Types of performances:

Participants present by-choice performances of baroque, classical, folklore, church, popular or contemporary music.

Festival program:

10th of May 2019 /Friday/

18.30 p.m. – Cantata and oratorio evening concert /in the Art Gallery/

11th of May 2019 /Saturday/

11.00 a.m. - Workshop with Dr. Madlen Batchvarova, professor of Music, Director of Choral Programs, Hanover College, USA /for the first concert participants/

12.30 p.m. – First concert of the festival participants /in State Opera House/

15.00 p.m. - Workshop with Dr. Madlen Batchvarova, professor of Music, Director of Choral Programs, Hanover College, USA /for the second concert participants/

16.30 p.m. – Second concert of the festival participants /in State Opera House/

20.30 p.m. – Dinner party for all the participants in the festival /in a restaurant in the centre of the town/

12th of May 2019 /Sunday/

11.00 a.m. – Meeting of the choir conductors and group leaders

13th of May 2019 /Monday/

Sightseeing in Stara Zagora and nearby towns – free time

14th of May /Tuesday/

Departure of the groups

*Some changes may occur in the schedule of the festival.

The workshops will allow the choirs to learn together a piece of gospel or spiritual music and perform it together.

The choirs are expected to participate in one of the festival concerts on Saturday.

The groups decide how to spend their free time and the organizers can offer help for excursions with a professional guide.

The Cantata and oratorio evening concert is open for the choirs to join. It is held by the host Rodina mixed choir with the participation of the guest choirs. They can perform a whole cantata or oratorio or part of them. It is necessary to state it in the application form.

5. The festival has no participation fee.

6. Application forms must be submitted no later than 30.01.2019 /for City and Elegance hotel offers/ and no later than 31.03.2019 /for other hotels and hostels/.

For City and Elegance hotel offers /because they are made especially for Avgusta Trayana festival/, the choirs, after a confirmation for participation from the organizers, have to pay in advance 10 % of the whole sum /depending on how many nights and dinners the group desire/ via a bank transfer to the hotel account. The rest of the sum shall be paid after the arrival of the group. The group contacts directly with the hotel.

* In case the group pays the 10 % sum and doesn`t arrive, the hotel shall not return the money.

Attached with the application form should be:

- a photograph of the choir and a separate picture of the conductor

- recording of a rendition of the chorus or a link to a website where such can be found

7. Upon receipt of applications, the organizers will send back an Official Invitation.

8. Participants are expected to bring an identification plate, carrying the name of the choir and the national flag of the country they represent.

9.Accommodation

The prices listed here refer to per person accommodation in 3* hotels and hostel.

*Accommodation, food and transport expenses during the festival shall be covered by the participants. The organizers can facilitate contacts with transporting companies to provide transportation from airport to Stara Zagora, as well as for different trips around Bulgaria.

10. All participants shall receive a parade helmet-mask of a tracian nobleman on a high position in the roman army from the town of Augusta Trayana /nowaday Stara Zagora/ from I century B.C.
